A week in workouts + today’s meal prep fun

The holiday weekend is already over with and I was a complete slacker. I ate what I wanted and didn’t do any workouts and I have no regrets! Sometimes that just happens and I’m not gonna cry about it! The workouts I did get in last week though were really fun and very effective (at least that’s what my sore muscles told me).

week in workouts

The legs workout and the full body quickie workout were ones I made up on the fly with moves I like to do. Right now I’m liking to just do workouts in a crazy, random way. I just work the parts I want and do the exercises I like to do. Those man makers are no joke!

Here’s a bigger peak at the quickie workout:

While I didn’t get in as many workouts as I had planned, I did have a lot of fun with family and we got a lot done around the yard. We started a garden last year and just got everything planted again for this year.

The kids love helping:

We planted cucumbers, watermelons, peas, green beans and then we still have our strawberry plants from last year that are sprouting. We planted some bell pepper varieties too but more on that a little later.

Over the weekend my husband discovered an interesting meal plan that we’re trying. It’s from the Caveman Keto blog and it’s called Caveman Keto’s 7-Day Keto Meal Plan. I am a little familiar with keto but don’t know all the details and I’m not even promising that I’ll stick to this. We just loved the meals in the plan and the way it’s all set up. If you’d like to learn more, just check out the link above. Whether we stick to “keto” or not, I like the idea of eating the same meals for 2-3 days in a row. I tend to do that anyway except I haven’t been doing all of the meal prep & cooking at one time. Silly me.

This morning I went shopping to scoop up everything we needed for the 7 days and it came up to $84 total. That includes a couple snack items I got for the kids and this super cute butterfly ceramic pot that I had to bring home with me. It was only $2.29!

Thank you Aldi!

The photo to the left of my new pot is a picture of all the peppers we planted this weekend. I seem to do much better with these when I plant them in pots. Last year I tried planting them in the ground in our actual garden but it didn’t turn out so well. Back to the pots we go! (Don’t mind our porch that needs to be re-finished!)

After I got home I started the meal plan prepping. I spent a total of 3 hours and during that time I drove to the grocery store and back (about a 25-minute drive each way), started and completed two complete meals (our dinner and lunch for the next 3 days), made my little man some lunch of his own and cleaned up the kitchen.

I browned a total of 5.14 pounds of beef!

I’m taking a break from the cooking for now (must feed my belly!!) but will be making our breakfast meal tonight! Meal plan prepping makes eating healthy so easy. Why do I keep going astray?! Let’s see if we can make it stick this time.

I hope you had a great holiday weekend!

  1. I just did man-makers over the weekend – those things are no joke!!!

  2. That is a great point. I just find myself always eating the same foods anyway. I couldn’t eat the same foods several days in a row forever, but I do tend to eat the same few foods for several weeks. When I get tired of eating something, I just switch it up. :)

  3. I think that I am just like you in a sense that I only do workouts that I like and forget about the rest of the exercises that my gym instructor thought me when I was starting.

Oh yeah, growing plants can be a good workout too since you need to move all the time every time you are in the garden. I would surely love to read about the vegetables and fruits that gathered once you harvested them. Please make a post about that. :)

  4. I agree with Carli I can keep to diets so long as I know i can treat myself every now and again. keeping to a set routine because you know it is low calorie can be pretty dull and uninspiring. It is also difficult buying some time ahead because you are never sure whether you are going to feel like eating it on the day.

    I keep trying :)
